File upload

The File upload field lets your audience upload images, PDFs or other files directly inside your Riddle. Use it in an existing form or as a standalone form block in any Riddle type: quiz, poll, personality quiz, survey, or anything else.

Files are stored in a folder in your Google Drive. The link to each file appears in your leads in Riddle and in the connected Google Sheet.

Good to know before you start: uploaded files are only saved if Google Drive is connected. Without a connection, files are lost. See Connect Google Drive below.

How it works

  1. Your audience picks a file in your Riddle and submits the form.
  2. Riddle uploads the file to a folder in your connected Google Drive.
  3. The file link is saved with the lead, in Riddle and in your Google Sheet.

Add a File upload field

In an existing form

  1. Open your Make a form block.
  2. Click on ADD FORM BLOCK and select File upload.
  3. Click on the edit icon on the right of the field to configure it (see below) and click on SAVE.

As a standalone block

  1. Click on ADD A BLOCK anywhere in your Riddle and select Make a form.
  2. Click on ADD FORM BLOCK and select File upload.
  3. Click on the edit icon on the right of the field to configure it (see below) and click on SAVE.

Configure the field

Click on the edit icon on the right of the File upload field to select options:

  • Label: the text your audience sees, e.g. "Upload your photo".
  • Allowed file types: choose which formats your audience can upload, e.g. JPEG, PNG, PDF. Anything else is rejected.
  • Maximum file size (MB): larger files are rejected before upload.
  • Description: optional helper text below the field, e.g. hints on format or content.
  • Required field: your audience must upload a file to continue.
  • Custom field ID: the column name in your leads, the Google Sheet and the API. Leave it empty and Riddle generates one.

Connect Google Drive

Connecting Google Drive is required. Uploaded files are only saved if Google Drive is connected. Without a connection, files are lost. You will see a warning in the field settings and cannot publish your Riddle until Google Drive is connected.

  1. Go to the Publish section and click on Save and connect data.
  2. Go to Add integrations and click on the blue ADD button next to Google Drive.
  3. Choose a Google account and click on Allow to authorize Google to connect with your Riddle account.
  4. Turn on the toggle for this Riddle.
  5. Publish your Riddle.

Riddle creates a folder in your Google Drive for the uploads and a Google Sheet for your leads. Both are linked from the Google Drive integration under Save and connect data.

Already using the Google Sheets integration? It is now called Google Drive. Your existing sheets and connections keep working, nothing changes for you.

Use case ideas

  • Photo contests: collect entries in one folder, pick winners, and reuse the best shots in a poll or gallery Riddle.
  • Applications and registrations: collect CVs, portfolios or proof of eligibility in one place.
  • Feedback with context: let your audience attach screenshots to a bug report or feedback form.
  • AI-powered follow-ups: point your AI tool (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) at the Google Drive folder and let it create a poll or quiz from the submissions. Example: collect "your favorite sports moment" photos, then let your AI build a "vote for the best moment" poll with the uploads.

Good to know

  • Files are stored only in your Google Drive, not on Riddle servers.
  • Keep the maximum file size reasonable (10 MB is a good default) so uploads work on mobile connections.
  • If a participant is on a slow connection, a large file can take a moment to upload. Set expectations in the label or description.
