We now have a brand new integration that allows you to connect your AWeber account to Riddle directly and also uses the very cool AWeber tagging system. Read all about it here.

The example below is still useful if you want to learn the principles of how to work with Riddle and Zapier – this allows you to connect anything from Lead Pages to Salesforce.com to Riddle.

Connect Riddle to your AWeber account

AWeber Email Marketing is one of the best email marketing automation tools on the market. While the only direct integration inside the Riddle lead gen options at the moment is MailChimp, this does not mean that you can not send all your leads straight to your AWeber account.

All it takes is a little cool tool in the middle called Zapier (check them out at zapier.com). Their free service is pretty solid and will allow you to get started.

In the example below, I will build a Riddle with a simple lead capture form and push the captured data to an aWeber list.

Just follow the steps below:

  • Create a free account at zapier.com
  • Then click on ‘Make a Zap’ to get started.
  • Scroll down until you see the ‘Webhook’ option.
  • Select ‘Webhook’ and continue.
  • Select the option to ‘catch a webhook’
  • Then skip over the next screen where you can specify more details as to what kind of data to catch.
  • Zapier will create the webhook URL for you.
  • Copy this URL to your clipboard
  • Then, head over to riddle.com to create a Riddle to use with this webhook.
  • Create any Riddle (quiz, list, poll, etc.) and add a lead gen form to it.
  • Select the Lead Gen option (make sure not to use MailChimp or custom at this step)
  • Be sure to add at least 2 fields (Name and Email) as we are going to add these leads to our aWeber account.
  • If you have more fields set up in your aWeber list, make sure to add them all here.
  • Go to the “integrations” tab in your Riddle editor and paste the webhook URL from Zapier here.
  • Now hit ‘publish’ and make sure to open the Riddle in a news window.
  • (Super important) Play through the entire Riddle at least once, filling in the lead gen form with sample data.
    • Zapier will not work properly if you do not go through this step.
  • When you are done playing through your Riddle, go back to Zapier and click on “OK, I did this”
  • (Pretty cool – they are making double sure that you actually sent some test data to their lovely webhook before you go on).
  • If you followed all these steps, Zapier will test the webhook and show you this success screen.

Next up is to choose where the data from the Riddle should go. Zapier gives you a wide selection of tools that you can send the data to. For this example we are obviously going to select aWeber. If aWeber does not show up as an option, just search for it.

  • Select aWeber and click continue
  • The action you want to use with AWeber is to create new subscribers from your Riddle lead gen form.
  • Please select the option Create New Subscriber and click continue.
  • If you have never used aWeber with Zapier, you will be asked to connect AWeber to Zapier. Just click connect and login with your AWeber credentials to establish this connection once.

(We’re almost there – hurrah!) Now we just need to tell Zapier how to map the entries from the Riddle to the corresponding form in your AWeber account.

  • First you need to select one of your aWeber lists (you need to have that list set up in your AWeber account already. If you don’t, please pause here and create that list first.)
  • Next you need to match the fields from the Riddle to corresponding MailChimp fields.
    • Email -> Lead Email
    • First Name -> Lead Name
    • When you are done with the matches click continue.

Yay – you’ve done it!

  • Give your new ZAP a name and activate it.
  • Now, when you go through your Riddle again and submit a lead, Zapier will enter that lead into the AWeber account list.
  • Please be patient when you are testing this, we’ve found that Zapier sometimes takes up to 20 minutes to process these requests.
  • Check out the screenshot to the left – it shows how the new lead shows up in AWeber

If you like, you can even push all the individual answers and the results to AWeber and use this to further segment your lists.

There are settings on the lead gen form to be nice and ask your customers if they want to submit this info or you can just collect these details by default if you like.

Now it’s definitely time for a coffee/beer/other beverage of your choice – you’ve earned it!
