Why question types matter

Format shapes engagement. Match the format to exactly what you need from your audience.
Each type captures different data. The question type determines the quality of the insight you get back.
Works across every Riddle format. The same toolkit powers Quizzes, Polls, Surveys, and minigames.
Less friction, more completions. The right question type keeps friction low and completion rates high.

The six standard question types

Single Select.

Users pick one answer from a list. The fastest, most frictionless format. Best for opinion polls, knowledge checks, and any question with one clear answer.

Multi Select.

Users pick one or more answers. Best when several answers can be right, or when you want a user's full set of preferences, not just their top pick.

Type the Answer.

Users type their answer instead of selecting it. Active recall, not passive recognition. Best for trivia and knowledge tests, where typing drives stronger retention.

Short Text.

A single-line open text input. Best for concise responses, a name, a word, a short opinion, in a user's own words rather than a preset option.

Long Text.

A multi-line open text field. Best for detailed feedback, open-ended opinions, or longer responses where depth matters more than speed.

Number.

A single-line input that accepts numbers only. Best for ages, quantities, scores, budgets, or any answer that is a specific number.
  • Which question type should I use?

Match the format to your goal: Single Select for fast polls and knowledge checks, Multi Select for multiple valid answers, Type the Answer for recall-based trivia, Short and Long Text for open feedback, and Number for quantities. Can I add images to question blocks?

Yes. All question types support images. Add visuals to make questions more engaging, provide context, or create richer branded experiences inside your Quiz, Poll, or Survey.
